Part I

THE UNDERGROUND: Anticommunism is a state of mind, the only constructive stance a decent man can adopt in current political climate. As you put it: “Unless you’re an active anticommunist, you are missing the mark in today’s world.” With so many competing ideologies staking a claim for our undivided attention, it is easy for our powers of reasoning to be perturbed, for common sense and simple decency to become blurred. We all need a compass or grounding. For us, the writings of Józef Mackiewicz provided such grounding. What was your road to anticommunism?

TREVOR LOUDON: My road to anti-communism was through my high school economics teacher. I was a typical NZ socialist as a teenager. Way to the left. He taught me about free markets as a better route to prosperity than state socialism.

I then read authors like Ayn Rand (though I rejected her militant atheism), Bastiat, Leonard Reed, Ludwig von Mises etc. By then I was an anti-socialist, but I had no understanding of the communist movement. I think this is a common failing with many businessmen and free market advocates. They think communism is merely an economic system that can be defeated by better economics.

Unfortunately, this is a delusion. Communism is a totalitarian system that seeks complete power over all people on this earth. It will use economics, religion, racial division and cultural differences to destroy all that stands in its way. Many think that China and Vietnam are no longer communist because they allow businesses to operate. This is a major mistake.

My turn to real anti-communism came in the 1980s. I met a Dutch New Zealander who had infiltrated the pro-Soviet Socialist Unity Party for our security services. In 1983 as a “fake” communist, he trained at Lenin’s Institute for Higher Learning on Leningradsky Prospect Moscow.

He helped the Soviet instructors plan the NZ anti-nuclear legislation which destroyed the Australian NZ US military alliance a few short years later. New Zealand wasn’t even the main target. The real goal was to strengthen and encourage the European “peace movement”, movement to destroy NATO. This would bring about the Soviet conquest of all of Europe.

The Soviets did not plan an anti-American campaign. New Zealand had been saved by the US in WW2 from a Japanese invasion. They were grateful and largely pro-American. The campaign had to have a pro-New Zealand independence theme.

The slogans invented by the Soviets were themed “NZ standing against the nuclear arms race … Kiwis forging an independent foreign policy … NZ leading the world towards peace.”

The Soviet crafted messages caught on immediately. All but the most discerning patriots were fooled. Most of my fellow Kiwis still believe these Soviet designed slogans. They are almost universally still proud of being manipulated by Moscow.

My courageous Dutch/Kiwi friend taught me how communism really works.

The communists set a policy. For example, they indoctrinate the British communists in that policy. The British communists then use their controlled social movements and labor unions to introduce that policy into the British Labour Party.

By a series of deniable steps communist policies become mainstream social democratic policy, even “conservative” policy.

When the targeted “social democratic” party is in power, communist policies become law of the land.

This process dominates Western and “third world” countries even today.

We are about to see it play out in Germany.

Global warming hysteria, Obamacare, Black Lives Matter, the radical homosexual movement, open borders and mass migration, the Western “woke” church, attacks on the military and “defunding the police”, are all examples of communist policies gone “mainstream”. There are hundreds more examples. “Political Correctness” is the communist’s cultural enforcement mechanism.

None of these policies and movements can be defeated through “free markets.” Modern communism today is more cultural than economic. If we want to save our freedoms, we must become “culture warriors” and committed anti-communists.

TU: There is a stereotype of a New Zealander, as a tough but fair individual, hard-working and honest, if a little too obsessed with rugby. Like most stereotypes, it is probably far removed from the truth. And yet, judging by your books, there seems to be a lot of communists in these paradise islands in the Pacific. How do you explain that?

TL: New Zealanders are a wonderful people. They are hardworking, loyal, friendly, brave on the battlefield and generous to a fault. And yes, they are the best rugby players on Planet Earth!

Unfortunately, most of them are socialists without knowing they are socialists.

New Zealand was settled in the mid-19th century by English gentry and the British tradesmen – who brought labour unionism with them. Unions were then, and still are transmission belts for communism.

Social “reformer” William Pember Reeves held several key posts in the New Zealand government in the late 19th century. He later moved to Britain where he joined the socialist Fabian Society.

From 1935 to 1949 the communist influenced Labour Party came to power, introducing all sorts of welfare state measures, including socialized healthcare and handouts galore.

In the 1960s when I grew up, we had benefits for almost everything. In the 1970s our “conservatives” introduced a socialized accident compensation system. We had compulsory union membership for decades. We had 66% taxation, but I was too young to pay it. Our schoolteachers told us we were world leaders in welfare. I was so proud of our dependency.

By the early 1980s the country was almost bankrupt. In 1984 we elected a new Labour government which made two major changes.

Firstly, the anti-nuclear policies that destroyed our military alliance with the US and Australia.

Secondly, massive tax cuts, de-regulation and privatization – free market reforms.

The economy boomed. Few cared that we had abandoned our American and Australian allies.

Interestingly, the communist controlled unions did nothing while the “free market” Labour leaders fired thousands of government workers and de-regulated large sectors of the economy.

This is because a deal had been done.

Our communists were completely loyal to Moscow. The Soviets wanted New Zealand to break with US and Australia over the nuclear warships issue. The New Zealand communists were told to support the Labour government at all costs and to ignore thousands and thousands of firings – and that’s exactly what they did. Labour’s left, their communist friends and Moscow took control of New Zealand’s foreign policy. The Labour “right” and their business friends got control of economic policy. Both sides were happy.

Since then, the Labour left has clawed back many of the economic gains we made in the 1980s. They have consolidated their power in education, foreign policy (they like China more than the US) and are taking New Zealand rapidly down the communist road.

Our Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is the former president of the youth wing of the Socialist International – a thoroughly communist infiltrated organization. Ardern is a Marxist to her soul. So are many of her cabinet ministers.

Ardern is leading NZ into arms of China and to the jaws of tyranny. She has severely damaged the economy with her fanatical Covid lockdowns, she has confiscated thousands of legal weapons, she is dividing the country on racial lines. But still half of the population adore her.

TU: America used to form a buffer against the progress of communism. Can we still trust the American power when the US Navy Secretary has laid out “four Cs” as critical challenges for the military? China, culture, climate, Covid… No mention of the most important ‘C’.

TL: Unfortunately, under President Biden, the US cannot be relied on to stand against communism. We are told Biden is a moderate. He was one of Reagan’s worst enemies in the US Senate. He opposed Reagan’s efforts to stop communism in Latin America. He was a regular visitor to Moscow. He was always an anti-anti-communist.

The Afghanistan debacle should leave no doubt. That country, with billions of dollars-worth of sophisticated weaponry and infrastructure was just handed to communist China.

President Trump was working with Japan and Taiwan and Australia and India to bring down the Chinese Communist Party. Now China no longer has to worry about the US forces on its Western flank. Now they don’t have to fight a two-front war. They can focus entirely on Southeast Asia and the Pacific. All while threatening India even more than before.

All of America’s allies are near panic. Moscow is empowered. Beijing has a friend in the White House. Pyongyang is getting ready to take over South Korea. Iran is on the verge of going nuclear. The Cubans and Venezuelans are working to bring all of Latin America under communist control – from Terra del Fuego to the now almost non-existent US border.

The US has foolishly tried to play Beijing off against Moscow since the 1970s. The US simply does not understand that both countries are economic, political and military allies. Despite misleading rhetoric to the contrary, and even limited armed conflict in the early 1960s Moscow and Beijing are in lockstep in their plans for world domination.

Now some, even Trump’s former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo (who should know better), are trying to play communist Vietnam off against communist China. We need to face the reality that the communist bloc (which includes modern Russia) is unified against the US and the West. They are winning. Their combined military forces outgun the US in almost every area. Why would any communist country want to defect to the losing side?

The Afghanistan disaster has shifted the whole world balance of power in favor of Beijing and Moscow.

Under the current US Administration, the US now works more consistently for communism (foreign and domestic) than against it.

Given the Biden family’s long history with both, and the procession of pro-Beijing appointments by the Biden Administration, this should surprise no-one.

If the Biden Administration was merely stupid or incompetent, wouldn’t it make a mistake in our favor once in a while?

US foreign policy is now conducted as if Xi Jinping is in the White House. Perhaps that’s because, in a way, he is.

TU: In your book, White House Reds, you show the pervasive influence of marxists, trotskyites, maoists (we just cannot extend the courtesy of capital letters to these hateful words) in American society. How did it happen? Why did no one notice?

TL: The US’s internal security mechanisms against communism have been under attack since before WW2. They have been pretty much dead since the 1990s.

Charges of “McCarthyism” – a term invented by the Communist Party USA – have been used to marginalize any politician willing to stand against the massive infiltration of almost every institution – from Hollywood to the churches, from the universities and unions to the Democratic Party and “Big Tech”.

So, the Vietnam generation, followed by the people who marched for the Sandinistas and the FLMN in the 80s and 90s, are now running America.

Nobody warned Americans because the media was self-muzzled, and the intelligence services were compromised and misdirected. One of the last genuine anti-communists in the US government Rep. Larry McDonald, a conservative Democrat from Georgia died when South Korean 007 airliner was shot down in “Soviet” airspace September 1983.

I’m sure I don’t have to remind Poles about the dangers of allowing your anti-communist leaders to fly anywhere near Russian airspace.

The next generation of leaders are even more dangerous. I said in my 2016 documentary “Enemies Within” that at least 100 members of Congress and 20 Senators are so in bed with communists, Islamists or both, they couldn’t pass a background check to drive a school bus. But there are no background checks in the US Congress.

Now hard leftist and outright communists dominate every major committee in the US House of Representatives and the Senate – including Armed Services, Homeland Security, Intelligence, Education, Judiciary – you name it, they run it.

To their credit, President Trump and a few others made it acceptable to talk about communism again in America. Unfortunately, because of the biased media most Americans don’t understand that politicians like Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar and AOC are communists. They have no idea that Black Lives Matter is a communist Chinese project. They don’t understand that the people working to shut down US energy production, open the borders and flood US borders with illegal aliens are mainly anti-American Marxists.

The media tells us these people are “Liberals” or “progressives” and that is how the communists disguise themselves.

Most Americans don’t understand that communist China is killing thousands of their children with Fentanyl. Or that Beijing is buying their politicians and business leaders, their farms and factories, wrecking their economy with Covid and helping to steal their elections.

They don’t connect the indoctrination of their children in schools and by Big Tech, the LGBT movement and leftward drift of their churches.

All of these negative phenomena are communist in nature. Americans see these problems. Thanks to the tea parties, a few brave media commentators and President Trump, many are now beginning to realize that these movements are all communist driven.

The next generation of Left leaders are even more communist than the last generation. However, grassroots patriots have never before been so numerous, and are becoming increasingly anti-communist.

TU: You demonstrated how deeply embedded and how widely spread are the leftist institutions in the US. And yet, there must still be conservative forces in America, which are opposed to the destruction of family and all traditional values, so relentlessly publicized by trendy commies. Is there a chance that a new Ronald Reagan will arise in the United States?

TL: Yes. As I travel all over this great country, I see hundreds of thousands of people getting involved in politics for the first time ever. I meet former leftists at almost every meeting – people who have abandoned socialism and communism and joined the freedom cause. Millions of Democratic voters have already abandoned the party that betrayed them years ago.

Sometimes people have to almost lose their freedom before they appreciate what they have. This sentiment is growing in every state of the union.

Millions of Americans sat at home during Covid lockdowns. They have been reading their children’s communist textbooks. They have watched their cities burn and their economy being destroyed. They watched an election stolen before their very eyes in the world’s richest and freest country. They are shocked, horrified and angry. And millions of them are getting active.

I am seeing young patriots everywhere – who know the US Constitution way better than their parents ever did, rising up in every state I visit. There are thousands of potential leaders among them.

I see my generation’s job is to push the communists back as far as we can. To defeat them at every opportunity. To create a space for these new leaders to rise through the ranks.

There are many Ronald Reagan’s on the rise. I see some that will take the idealist vision of Reagan and the grassroots populism of Trump to create a new freedom movement and much sounder conservative politics. The elitism and the laziness of the old Republican Party is on the wane. Fired up young grassroots activists are taking over the Republican Party all over the country.

The next wave of leaders won’t have to waste energy battling the Republican Party old-guard like Reagan and Trump had to – they will have the grassroots behind them, and the grassroots will be the Party.
